Distance Slab of the Sixth Legion, Duntocher
A sandstone distance slab of the Sixth Legion, found at Braidfield Farm, near Duntocher fort in 1812. It is 76.5cm high by 119cm wide by 17cm deep.
The inscription reads: IMP C T AELIO HADRIANO ANTONINO AVG P P VEX LEG VI VICTRICS P F OPVS VALLI P MMM CCXL F which translates as "For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, Father of his Country, a detachment of the Sixth Victorious, Loyal and Faithful Legion built the work of the wall over a distance of 3240 feet".
On the detachment flag (vexillum) is the inscription "VIRT AVG" which translates as "Valour of the Emperor".
