Bar Hill
Quern Stone, Bar Hill
A quern stone with a slot for a handle (shown with a modern one in place) found at Bar Hill. The quern stone is made of lava from Andernach in Germany and may have been imported from Germany or brought to the site by one of the regiments stationed there. It was used for grinding grain into flour. The top stone is 35cm in diameter, the lower one 41cm in diameter.
